The first new P. Hux album since 1995's award-winning P. Hux "Deluxe" spotlights nine new Parthenon-penned songs.
Purgatory Falls features Hux's signature guitar work and soulful vocals with the support of Gordon Townsend's brilliant drumming, background vocals and (surprise!) mellotron. The album has numerous guest musicians, including Mik Kaminski (ex-ELO), Ric Menck (Matthew Sweet, Velvet Crush),
and Dan Rothchild (L.A. God-like bassist.) Original P. Hux bassist Rob Miller (currently a computer magnate) contributed on two tracks.
Purgatory Falls is more than just a sophomore effort from a critically acclaimed pop band. It's a tribute to Parthenon's late wife, Janet Heaney, who passed away from cancer in 1997.Parthenon and Gordon worked hard to makePurgatory Falls an album that listeners would want to revisit again and again. "With the subject matter being what it is, it was important to organize the album in such a way that it works as a record," Parthenon says. "I think we succeeded." Lucky early listeners agree. I think that it is both deeply personal and excrutiatingly beautiful! Really an exquisite piece of work. Not upbeat jangle pop like "Deluxe", but most certainly pop... personal pop of the finest order. It is hard to listen to this CD and NOT be moved by the emotion of it. I rate it outstanding! M. H. I purchased a numbered and autographed copy of the Purgatory Falls cdr at a living room show P. Hux did a few weeks ago. This cd is absolutely gorgeous! Chock full of heartfelt lyrics and melodies. The kind of stuff that will bring tears to your eyes. This cd is in high rotation and would be in my top 10 if it were released this year. C. G.
