VeG is the eponymous debut album by Parthenon Huxley (guitar and
vocals), Winston Watson (drums) and Paul Martinez (bass), three LA friends
who--essentially in their spare time--cooked up a whale of a rock record.
Winston, Paul and Parth are musicians who take pride in their pedigree,
and fans are sure to find it interesting: Winston was Bob Dylan's drummer
for four years, and played at Woodstock II, the Prince's Trust, Letterman,
etc.,etc. Paul Martinez played bass for Robbie Robertson and toured the
USA on the Warped Tour as a member of native American rockers Red Thunder.
Parthenon of course joined ELO Part II (now Orchestra) in 1998.
VeG the band and VeG the album grew out of jams fueled by ouzo, weed
and the desire to make music without boundaries. Luckily for the listener,
those jams were picked apart, studied for exceptional bits, and then
re-cast as proper songs.
Recorded over several years and in various studios from LA to Tucson, VeG
is sure to delight fans of power and melody...think Cream and Hendrix take
the Beatles to lunch with Led Zeppelin.... (For P. Hux fans, think guy record!)
Although hardly anyone's heard VeG, it did get a bit of nice press:
VeG is a triumph of substance over style. They walk the talk with that lost
quality known as SOUL.
Michael Simmons--LA Weekly
Under the name VeG, (Huxley)'s rocked things up a notch and blazed guitar
all over the place. Wonderful stuff.
Mojo
Guitar hooks that won't leave your brain...timeless poprock... undeniably
magic... elegant cathedrals of sound, anchored by Huxley's always-inventive
guitar sounds...VeG's dynamic heartfelt album deserves a wider audience.
Arizona Daily Star
Astounding guitar, thick and pounding bass lines, tremendous drums...strong,
heavy and irreproachable songs.
